I thought I was healthy.
I was eating clean, working out five days a week, and surrounding myself with holistic practitioners. From the outside—and even to myself—it looked like I was doing everything “right.”
But my body was telling a different story.
In the latest episode of the Natural Health Network Podcast, I’m sharing the beginning of my personal journey through thyroid cancer—what happened before my diagnosis, the warning signs I missed, and what I wish I had known sooner.

The Subtle Thyroid Cancer Warning Signs I Ignored
Looking back, there were several red flags that didn’t seem connected at the time:
Constant fatigue that I blamed on a busy life with kids
Difficulty losing weight despite consistent workouts and clean eating
Mood changes, anxiety, and feeling unlike myself
Shortness of breath during normal activity
A visible lump in my neck that I didn’t recognize as abnormal
Thinning hair on head and outer edges of eyebrows
These symptoms built slowly over time, making them easy to dismiss or normalize.
But they weren’t normal.

When “Healthy” Isn’t Actually Balanced
Even though I was focused on clean eating, I learned the hard way that “clean” doesn’t always mean balanced.
I was relying heavily on foods like rice and potatoes without enough protein and fiber—and it was impacting my blood sugar in ways I didn’t realize until I used a continuous glucose monitor.
I also tried hormone replacement therapy without fully understanding what my body needed first, which led to more inflammation instead of healing.
These choices weren’t wrong—they were just incomplete.
The Gut Health Connection
One of the biggest clues that something deeper was going on?
Years of recurring UTIs.
After multiple rounds of antibiotics and visits to specialists, I finally addressed my gut health through functional testing—and everything changed.
Within months:
My energy improved
My symptoms decreased
The UTIs stopped completely
It was a powerful reminder that your body is always communicating—you just need to know how to listen.

The Moment Everything Changed
After comprehensive bloodwork with a practitioner who took the time to look at my full health picture, I was referred for a thyroid ultrasound.
That’s when they found:
A 2.5 cm thyroid nodule
A cyst
And eventually, a biopsy result showing a 75% chance of thyroid cancer
That moment was a turning point—but it was also the beginning of learning how to truly advocate for myself.

What I Wish I Knew Sooner
If I could go back, here’s what I would tell myself—and you:
Don’t ignore symptoms just because they seem common
“Normal” lab results don’t always mean everything is functioning optimally - Holistic practitioners read bloodwork with optimal ranges and often run additional pannels.
Your family health history matters more than you think
There is value in both traditional and holistic approaches
You know your body better than anyone else
This Is Just the Beginning
This blog only scratches the surface of my journey.
In the full podcast episode, I go deeper into:
The testing process
The decisions I had to make
And how I navigated conflicting medical opinions
